Self-Care is a Gift to Myself

woman journaling as self-care

Self-care is never a selfish act - it is simply good stewardship of the only gift I have, the gift I was put on earth to offer others - Parker Palmer

Sometimes I feel guilty for taking so much of my day for self-care.  It just feels selfish or that I am self-absorbent.  But I am not self-centered or selfish - I am cherishing the gift of my life.  Life is a gift; not caring for it is foolish and ungrateful.  I choose every day to celebrate my life, and part of that is self-care.

We have eight areas of our lives that need to be met for us to be healthy and happy.  These areas are:

  • Physical - take a walk or do some yoga

  • Psychological - talk with a therapist or write in your journal

  • Emotional - meditating or watching funny videos on YouTube

  • Social - meet up with friends or family

  • Professional - update your resume or go to a networking event

  • Environmental - clean up your room or decorate it with something you love

  • Spiritual - attend church or a spiritual event

  • Financial - make a budget or save for a future purchase

These examples are just a few of the activities you can do, so check out my other blog posts for more examples of self-care.

I like to sit down and assess the areas that need more attention.  I do this by heading to this website and answering the questions for each facet of my life.  Once you score yourself, you will see the areas to concentrate your energies.  I find it so helpful that I do it a few times a year.

I hope you find this post helpful, and feel free to message me with any questions you have. Have an awesome day.
