Small Changes for a Cozy Life

In my quest for all things relaxing and soul-fulfilling, I discovered Hygge (pronounced hoo ga). It is all about living simply for greater happiness. It can look like Cottagecore, but it doesn’t have to. Hygge is experiencing the joy of the little things.
You might be wondering where to start so I will share my path to hygge. It was a slow but rewarding process. I added each element until I was super cozy and relaxed.

First, I lit candles near a cozy chair and read a great book. This was pleasant and quickly became my favorite book nook to snuggle up in. The smell was amazing and I loved reading my book, so that became the place to find me.
Second, I wanted a fireplace in my room, but there wasn’t room for one, so I found a fireplace video on YouTube to play on my smart TV. This was a game-changer for me. Once I realized that I could play tons of videos with ambient sounds of snow falling or a coffee shop, I was hooked.
Third, I figured out that making cozy drinks like coffee and tea ramped up the hygge factor. Sometimes I even added a sweet treat if I was feeling up to it. Sipping a delicious cup of coffee while you read a wonderful book is the ultimate way to relax.
Around this time, I found a book about hygge, The Little Book of Hygge by Meik Wiking. I read it in a day as it isn’t very long, but it is packed with ideas for a more hygge lifestyle. If you are going to buy the book, get the hardcover as it is beautifully illustrated. I have read the book 3 times because it is such a pleasure to read. It feels like getting a warm hug.
Fourth, at the suggestion of the book, I found my furriest pair of socks and my most comfortable pj’s and put them on. For me, this completed my cozy journey.
I hope that you found my post helpful. I love the little hygge life that I created. It is cozy and fills my soul with happiness. I have a place to turn to when things get difficult in the world. Treat yourself to any or all of these small changes. Have an awesome day.
