The trouble with self-care is that we don’t have time for it when we most need it.  But we are wrong.  We do have time for quick and easy self-care.  Below you will read about four self-care practices that will boost your mood and anxiety levels.

Woman enjoying the outside

Step outside

One of the first things I do when I am feeling low is head to my backyard and do some mindful breathing and I feel so much better.

Getting outside will quickly calm you down by easing anxiety symptoms and reducing depression symptoms.  You will breathe more easily and feel happier.  Spending time outdoors will elevate Vitamin D levels, lower blood pressure, and reduce inflammation.  It is also great for your eyesight.

Stretching

I have been stretching during my yoga practice and experienced a change in my body, mind, and soul.  I am more active and I have less pain.

Our neck, shoulders, and upper back tighten when stressed. Releasing the tension in our body reduces tension in our minds.  Stretching also increases flexibility, expands the range of motion, and improves physical performance.  We also have enhanced blood flow and posture.

Mental Check-in

I do a daily mental health check-in to monitor my mood and anxiety levels.  I use the Daylio app to track my mood, but you can track your mood in a notebook if you want to save money.

Taking a moment to reflect on your mood, gives you time to acknowledge how you are feeling.  If you realize that your mood is low or that your anxiety is high, you can ramp up your self-care and deal with your emotions.

You can also see patterns in how you feel when you track daily.  If you notice that your mood is consistently low or you are feeling anxiety for a long period, you can seek help.

Meditate for a Minute

One of my favorite self-care methods is meditation.  You can benefit from the practice even if you only take a minute. Meditation makes me more grateful and positive.

Meditation will provide stress relief, help you control your anxiety, and improve your mood.  It will also help you with your sleep.

Each of these practices only takes a minute but delivers stress relief and improves mood.  Give one or all of them a try and comment below your favorite quick and easy self-care method.
